Obituary for Wendy Ruth Kent (Lundquist)

When the rain is blowing in your face
And the whole world is on your case
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love

When evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one there to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love

Although Wendy and I hadn't known one another for very long she was truly a beautiful kindred spirit. I will value our conversations and the time I was blessed to have with her. Keep shining where ever you are Wend!

I met Wendy at the Canadian Women’s Foundation in 1994. For both of us it was our first day volunteering for the Foundation. We were asked to tie ribbons around cards and envelopes that were part of a fundraiser. We quickly realized this was a two person job—one to tie the bow and one to place a finger on the loop to keep the ribbon tight! We laughed and had a pleasant afternoon tying ribbon.
When it was time to go home I offered Wendy a lift. It turned out we were neighbours, both living in St Lawrence Neighbourhood in downtown Toronto. Out of tying ribbon a friendship was born that lasted 26 years.
I told Wendy about a job opening at Wordsworth Co-op where I lived. She applied and got the job. That’s where she met Stuart, the love of her life.
Wendy and I saw each other through good times and bad. I brought her to Toronto ito visit just before Covid began to change all our lives. She didn’t want to do very much, but she said yes to a mani-pedi at the spa around the corner. We sat side by side in the big chairs and fiddled with the buttons for the massage feature. Wendy chose pink nail colour for her fingers and an ocean blue colour for her toes that looked fabulous. We had a great day.
She asked me to be her Attorney for Personal Care, trusting me to carry out her wishes at her end of life, a duty I was honoured to fulfill.
I miss Wendy. She shone bright and true in a complicated world. We are the poorer without her.

I dedicate this tree to you Wendy to honour your love of the forest which we agreed long ago is the centre of spirituality.

Dear Cousin Wendy: Perhaps we have known each other the longest of all your contributing friends - but not as well as those who have embraced you so dearly, and been at your side through the many perils that life has wrought for you. After many shared moments in childhood and our teen years, life’s journeys led onto differing paths. Some of the differences were based on situations into which we were born. My mom always had a special place in her heart for you - as have I since we reunited in our adult years, via email. Thank the lord for email - a medium which suited us both so well. I am so happy, in accordance with the words of your friends, that you and Stuart will rise again, together. I was sorry to never meet him. I was so happy for you when you did meet him, and through the happy times you shared with him. We Scripture descendants are not a close clan, never were. It was a family interrupted be premature passages of the immediate parents, and the, daughters, 3 sisters, 2 of whom were our moms, had to forge their own paths. Despite the distances and differences - our connections over the last 2 - 3 decades have been very meaningful to yours truly. You are now at peace and may you rest well. Love, Leigh
