Robert (Bob / Rob) Stewart Gilchrist
March 17, 1939 – October 7, 2018
Bob passed away at home suddenly on Sunday, October 7, 2018. He survived a number of surgeries and health issues over the past 20 years but died unexpectedly of a heart attack. Luckily he had celebrated Thanksgiving with his immediate family just prior to his death.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Vickie (Kobelski), sister Judy Fabick of Vancouver, B.C., sister in law Kathy Kobelski, cousin Betty Chandler, second cousins Leslie Chandler, David Sparkes and their spouses and children.
Bob worked for a number of years in television at various places such as The Australian Broadcasting Co., CTV Network, CFTO-TV, and finally at CBC – from where he retired. He worked freelance as well in the 1980’s on shows such as Jim Henson’s Muppets, SCTV, and 20 Minute Workout to name a few. Bob mentored many people over the course of his career as well.
He was an avid sailor and a former member of the Queen City Yacht Club and The Toronto Hydroplane and Sailing Club until his health interfered and he was forced to sell his beloved boat “Cadjeux”.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, October 15, 2018 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Newcastle Funeral Home, 386 Mill Street South, Newcastle, Ontario (905-987-3964).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Port Hope Northumberland Community Health Centre or the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation or Dogguides of Canada.
Thank you to all our friends and neighbours for their kindness and support and special thanks to Durham Regional Police, Fire and EMS for their professionalism and respectfulness during this difficult time.
